Good Agricultural Practices

Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) is an integrated set of recommended crop management practices. The GAP basket for increasing rice yield includes land-preparation options, variety choice, crop establishment, weed management, fertilizer and pest and disease management among others. By using these improved crop management methods, farmers can improve the productivity and profitability of rice crops through the adoption of locally adapted ‘best’ rice varieties, thereby protecting the local environment.

Dissemination of Good agricultural practices (GAP) among farmers in a fun way was attempted through the traditional snakes and ladder game. Here ladder represents good agricultural practices and snakes represents the bad practices. This game was developed using Python open source software. The first screen of the game prompts for number of farmers paying the game. The game generates dice and coins for the farmers and dice moves across the blocks in the board
