ICAR-IIRR and ICAR-NAARM Organize Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Peddashapur Village, Telangana, Hyderabad, June 25, 2026:
ICAR–Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR), Hyderabad, in collaboration with ICAR–National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (ICAR-NAARM), Hyderabad, organized a Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Peddashapur Village, Shamshabad Mandal, Rangareddy District, Telangana, on June 25, 2026. The programme was aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing farmers' awareness of scientific nutrient management for improving crop productivity and soil health.
A major focus of the programme was creating awareness on Soil Test-Based Balanced Use of Fertilizers. Scientists highlighted the importance of soil testing for determining nutrient requirements and emphasized the judicious application of fertilizers to improve nutrient-use efficiency, reduce cultivation costs, maintain soil fertility, and ensure sustainable agricultural production.
As part of the campaign, seeds of DRR Dhan 90, a recently released low-soil nitrogen tolerant rice variety developed by ICAR-IIRR, were distributed to 100 farmers. The variety has been developed to perform well under reduced nitrogen conditions and is expected to contribute towards sustainable rice cultivation while maintaining stable productivity.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, local stakeholders, representatives of farmer organizations, and village leaders. Dr. Brajendra and Dr. Kalyani from ICAR-IIRR interacted with farmers and shared information on improved rice production technologies and nutrient management practices. Dr. Laxman Ahire and his team from ICAR-NAARM actively participated in the awareness programme and facilitated farmer interactions.
The Khet Bachao Abhiyan served as an effective platform for disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening the linkage between agricultural research institutions and farming communities. The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of ICAR-IIRR and ICAR-NAARM towards promoting climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and farmer-centric agricultural technologies for sustainable rural development.
